Behaviour Support in Rockhampton
Living with complex behaviours can be challenging, for the person experiencing them and for the people who care about them. At Rock Support Services, we provide behaviour support that is genuinely person-centred, practical, and grounded in real relationships.
Our approach focuses on understanding what drives behaviour, not just managing it. We work alongside individuals, families, carers, and support networks to create positive change that lasts.
Whether you’re an NDIS participant, a parent or carer, a child safety officer, or a support coordinator looking for the right fit, our team is here to help.

How Behaviour Support Can Help
The goal of positive behaviour support is not just to reduce difficult behaviours, it’s to improve overall quality of life.
When the right support is in place, people often experience:
- Greater confidence and independence in daily life
- Improved communication and social connection
- Reduced stress for family members, carers, and household members
- Better outcomes for children involved with the child protection system
- A clearer sense of identity, goals, and strengths
- More meaningful participation in community activities
- A reduction in restrictive practices over time
Positive behaviour therapy works best when it’s woven into everyday life, not treated as a standalone intervention.
What Our Behaviour Support Service Includes
Our behaviour support services are tailored to each person’s unique needs and circumstances. Depending on your goals and NDIS plan, support may include:

Comprehensive functional behaviour assessments

Strategies to reduce restrictive practices in line with NDIS requirements

Support for children and young people in out-of-home care placements

Collaboration with child safety officers, case managers, and statutory agencies

Regular review and monitoring of progress

Liaison with allied health professionals, educators, and other key people in a person's network
Who This Service Is For ?

Behaviour support is for anyone whose quality of life, or the well-being of those around them, is being affected by challenging behaviours.
This service may be a good fit if you are:
- An NDIS participant with behaviour support funding in your plan
- A parent or family member seeking strategies and guidance
- A foster or kinship carer supporting a child with complex needs
- An allied health professional seeking a collaborative referral partner
- A plan manager looking for local and reliable behaviour support
You don’t need to be in crisis to access this service. Early intervention often produces the best long-term outcomes, particularly for children and young people in out of home care whose early experiences may be driving the behaviours they’re presenting with.
We know this community.
We’ve been part of Rockhampton for years and understand the local landscape, the services available, the gaps that exist, and how to navigate complex systems, including child protection and out-of-home care.
We bring lived and professional experience.
A significant portion of our workforce is drawn from the communities we serve, including strong First Nations representation. That lived connection matters deeply when building trust with participants, children, and families, particularly those with experience of statutory systems.
Three generations, one team.
Rock Support Services is a multi-generational family business. The values that guide how we treat our team are the same values we bring to every person we support.
We collaborate across disciplines.
Our behaviour support practitioners work alongside allied health professionals, educators, child safety officers, and support coordinators to make sure everyone is working from the same page.
Why Choose Rock Support Services
We’re a locally owned and operated family business, built on the belief that great support starts with genuine relationships.
We work with people, not for them. Our mission is simple: to help people live their best lives. Behaviour support is no different; we build strategies around the person, not the other way around.

How It Works
Step 1
Get in touch: Contact us by phone or through our website. We'll have an initial conversation to understand your situation and what you're looking for.
Step 2
Initial meeting: We'll arrange a time to meet with the participant and their key support people, carers, or case managers, to learn more about their life, goals, and what's been happening.
Step 3
Behaviour Support Plan: We develop a practical, person-centred plan in collaboration with the participant, family, carer, and support team. For children involved with child protection, we align the plan with case management goals where relevant.
Step 4
Ongoing support: We stay involved to monitor progress, provide support, and adjust the plan as needs change.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Behaviour support is a type of funded support under the NDIS that helps participants and their networks understand and respond to behaviours of concern. It involves assessment, planning, and working with everyone involved in a person's daily life.
Positive behaviour support (PBS) is an evidence-based approach that focuses on understanding why a behaviour occurs and addressing the underlying needs driving it. Rather than reactive strategies, positive behaviour therapy builds skills, improves environments, and creates conditions where challenging behaviour is less likely to occur. For children with trauma histories, PBS is most effective when it incorporates a trauma-informed lens.
Absolutely. Involving the people who spend the most time with a participant is one of the most important parts of effective behaviour support. We actively encourage family members, foster and kinship carers, support workers, and educators to be part of assessments, planning, and strategy implementation.
Maybe. Behaviour support is generally funded under Improved Relationships or Capacity Building in your NDIS plan. If you're unsure whether your plan includes this funding, your support coordinator or plan manager can help you check. You're also welcome to contact us and we can help point you in the right direction.
