NDIS Household Task Assistance: What’s Typically Included (Cleaning, Meals, Routines)
For many Participants and their families, keeping up with everyday household tasks is more difficult to keep on top of. Cleaning the house, preparing meals, or managing laundry may not sound complicated, but when you are dealing with disability, health challenges, or fatigue, these small responsibilities can quickly feel overwhelming and it’s very normal and common for help to be required.
At Rock Support Services, our team helps people with all manner of household tasks every day. We spend a lot of time working alongside Participants in their homes, helping them stay on top of the practical things that keep daily life running smoothly. Sometimes it’s about helping participants learn to do the tasks independently, and other times it’s about bringing in our cleaning or mowing team to provide extra hands to get the jobs done.
In this blog, we will talk about common household task requests and how you can get the support you need, when you need it.

Having your support worker assist with household tasks
It’s part of Support Workers remit to help participants manage everyday responsibilities at home. They usually sit under NDIS assistance with daily life, which is designed to support people who need help with routine activities so they can live safely and independently.
For some people, this might mean having a support worker come in occasionally to help with cleaning or laundry. For others, it may involve more regular support with meals, organisation, or maintaining routines.
The goal is not to take over someone’s home or responsibilities. Instead, the focus is on providing the right level of support so participants can thrive in their own space.

Extra support with Household Cleaning or Gardening Services
A clean home makes a huge difference to daily wellbeing. But for participants dealing with mobility issues, fatigue, or mental health challenges, regular cleaning can be difficult to stay on top of. This may need expert external help to lend a hand and complete the tasks so you don’t have to worry about it.
Tasks such as vacuuming, wiping down surfaces, cleaning bathrooms and kitchens, or changing bed linen and washing/folding laundry are tasks that our cleaners can perform. For more info on our cleaning services visit this page.
You need to decide if you want to be involved in the tasks or get an external cleaner to do it for you, there is no right or wrong here, we can help either way.
Support With Meals and Cooking
Meal preparation is another area where people often need help. This falls under the remit of your support worker, and is covered by NDIS. Cooking requires energy, planning, and the ability to manage several steps at once.
Under NDIS assistance with daily life, support workers can assist with planning meals, preparing ingredients, cooking simple meals, and cleaning up the kitchen afterwards.
Sometimes this looks like cooking together (this is always fun for our team!). Other times it might mean helping prepare meals in advance so participants have food ready during the week.
Either way, the focus is always on making mealtimes easier and more manageable.

Laundry and Everyday Organisation
Laundry is another task that often appears in NDIS household tasks support. This could be either done with you by your support worker, or if you prefer an external service to take care of it, our cleaning service can help too.
Support workers may help with washing and drying clothes, folding laundry, changing bedding, or keeping shared spaces tidy. These tasks may seem simple, but they play an important role in helping participants maintain a comfortable living environment.
Routines That Make Daily Life Easier
Household task support is not always just about cleaning or chores. A big part of assistance with daily life NDIS involves helping participants develop routines that make everyday life easier to manage.
For example, a support worker might help someone organise their weekly household tasks, structure their day, or create simple routines around meals and cleaning.
Who Can Receive NDIS Funding for Household Tasks Support?
Not every participant will need support with household tasks, but many people do. Participants may receive funding for NDIS household tasks if their disability makes it difficult to manage daily responsibilities around the home.
This can include people living with physical disabilities, developmental conditions, or mental health challenges that affect their ability to maintain their living space.
Support is usually included within NDIS assistance with daily life, and the level of support will depend on the individual NDIS plan. Contact your plan manager for more advice here.
